Partner Announcement: St. Croix Foundation — 35 Years of Community-Led Change

Celebrating its 35th anniversary this year, the St. Croix Foundation has provided holistic wraparound services and fiscal sponsorship to over 250 local nonprofits. Rooted in activism and founded in response to the devastation of Hurricane Hugo, the Foundation is a backbone institution and civic hub in the U.S. Virgin Islands. It supports organizations through capacity building, coalition work, data collection, grantmaking, and advocacy.

A hallmark of their work is the St. Croix Nonprofit Consortium, a nine-year-old coalition of 30 groups that advances collective solutions to community challenges. Today, the Foundation is also spearheading a major downtown development project to establish a “resilience hub,” continuing its mission to bring new resources and infrastructure to the community. The hub will strengthen the island’s disaster readiness and ensure equitable community development.

When the Foundation received a Mellon Foundation grant to launch a robust regranting program, they began looking for a solution to deploy money quickly and equitably to partners. The Foundation was searching for a platform and service aligned with their trust-based, community-first values. In particular, one that could also amplify the voices of their nonprofit partners.

Through JustFund, the Foundation is streamlining grantmaking for programs like the Healing Humanities Fund and other place-based grant programs. Just as importantly, they’re leveraging JustFund’s incredible search database to highlight the profiles of their consortium members, ensuring more funding opportunities for grassroots organizations across the Virgin Islands.
